Tarragona
The town of Tarragona traces its roots to the ancient Romans founding it in 218 BC as a legionnaires military base. Remainders of its past still stand on the Paseo Arqueologico (Archaeological Avenue), in the form of vestiges of the Roman amphitheatre, aqueduct, forum and other edifices. This impressive paseo leads to some panoramic viewpoints. Another cultural - historical destination are the many museums of Tarragona. Do not miss out on the following: an archaeological museum devoted to Roman antiquities; the Diocesan Museum displaying Gothic paintings, sculptures and tapestries; and a house museum detailing the life and career of renowned cellist, Pablo Casals.

Outside the old city walls is a broad boulevard called the Rambla Nova; it s a main street that s representative of the modern, progressive direction of Tarragona. Another popular activity for tourists is to explore the old harbor, known as El Serrallo, to watch the fishing boats arrive and auction off their catch. The city also boasts some fabulous beaches, including Playa Llarga, regarded as one of the biggest and finest on the coast of Catalonia.
